Albany County joins Fair Chance Act Movement

Albany County in New York State is one of the latest counties to join the Fair Chance Act movement. County Legislator Samuel Fein introduced Local Law No. "N" on August 8, 2016 - "A local law of the County of Albany, New York, prohibiting Albany County Government from discriminating against potential employees based on their criminal arrest record or conviction."  To read the full text of the law, click here.

Non-Verbal Communications and Investigating Insurance Fraud

Non-Verbal Communication assessment can be used when investigating insurance fraud cases. At a recent Florida Insurance Fraud Education Committee Conference (FIFEC), former FBI Agent, Joe Navarro presented on Non-Verbal Communications. Examples of professions who study non-verbal communications include criminal psychologists, criminal behavioral analysts and statement analysts. They work with the criminal justice system to help solve crimes, provide insight into the reliability of testimony and may be involved in investigating insurance fraud cases.

Process Server Assault Bill Delivered to Governor Cuomo on August 8, 2016

The process server assault bill added a section to Senate Bill 2991 making an assault on a process server a Class D Felony. If the bill, which was delivered to Governor Cuomo on August 8, is passed, New York will be the 4th state to have this legislation, joining California, Florida and Illinois. Other states with proposed legislation include Arizona and Washington. The Governor has 30 days to sign or veto the bill.
